How Ultrasonic Cleaning Saved the Day for Harley Davidson
Ultrasonic cleaning is not only effective, it is tremendously versatile. Everything from engine parts to printed circuit boards can be cleaned using an ultrasonic cleaner. Here are a few examples of the varied applications our products are used for.
In Kansas City, MO, we have a large disaster restoration contractor who specializes in contents restoration. They use ultrasonic cleaning to help homeowners and businesspeople alike bounce back after misfortune strikes. Whether removing soot from fire damage, or scale, deposits, or even mildew from water damage, this company has seen it all. At least they thought so until Harley Davidson called.
Harley Davidson has a vehicle and powertrain manufacturing plant located in Kansas City that produces some of their most hi-tech motorcycles such as the Sportster®. A while back the plant received a shipment of engine cases that were covered with an unusual amount of grit after fabrication. In their delivered state, these high performance parts were unusable. A representative from the plant reached out to our restoration client to see if they could clean the pistons. Sure enough the disaster recovery company was able to save the parts using ultrasonic cleaning and some technical guidance from our staff regarding chemistry, temperature, time and process.
Ultrasonic cleaning is for more than just machinery and contents restoration. It can even clean precision electronics. Another customer of ours uses ultrasonic cleaning on printed circuit boards after they have been shipped to the U.S. from Asia. The long sea voyage can leave mineral deposits and even mildew on the components. The cleaning process is effective enough to remove the contaminants, but also gentle enough to leave the thin copper etchings unharmed.
