When restoring a classic car, you cannot just run down to the auto parts store to pick up a new part. Getting a classic car to run means working with what you have on hand. Bringing a classic car back to life usually involves getting the engine up and running first.
Typically, these engines have seen many hours and have lots of grease, dirt and grime that can cause them not to function properly, if at all. That is why using an ultrasonic cleaner is a great way to get these parts as close to new as you can.
No More Solvents and Scrubbing
Engines are hot. They also require oil to keep them running properly. That means most classic car parts are going to have a nasty layer of burnt oil caked on them. In the past, the only way to get this off was to place the parts in a bath of pretty nasty chemicals. The solvents would work on breaking down the chemical bonds of the grease.
Once that was done the parts needed to be hand scrubbed to get all of the grease off. Even after all that time is spent, the parts may still not be clean. Engines have corners, tubes and orifices that are very hard to get brushes into.
Grime that had built up on them might not be able to be reached by brushes, leaving them still dirty.Worse, some of the more delicate parts may not stand up to the chemical assault. This means finding alternatives to get those parts clean. Ultrasonic cleaners solve those problems.
Ultrasonic Cleaners Get Parts Cleaner
Ultrasonic cleaners work by using cavitation. The parts are put into a bath of liquid and a mild cleaner. A device called a transducer vibrates creating microscopic bubbles in the bath. These bubbles collide with the surface of the parts releasing a tremendous amount of energy. As that energy is released, the bonds between the grease and the parts are broken, and the grease is carried away.
All you need to do is put the parts in the solution and set the timer. As the grease pulls away, it floats to the top of the ultrasonic bath and can be skimmed off and recycled. Since the parts are fully submerged in the bath, every surface of the part can be cleaned.
All of your Parts Can Go In
Since there are no harsh chemicals, all of the parts of the classic car can be cleaned this way. This means everything from door handles to transmissions, as well as everything in between, can go into the tub. Put your parts in and walk away while the ultrasonic cleaner does all of the work for you!
