If you are a gun owner, the task of cleaning your gun may seem a bit tedious. You may also get frustrated with not being able to get into every crack and crevice of the gun. Imagine a cleaning process that only takes minutes! Best of all, you can also use the same process to lubricate the gun and have it ready to go for your next session at the range.
Handgun Cleaning
Prior to using an ultrasonic cleaner on your handgun, you will want to make sure you remove the grips and any external laser or sight attachments. Once you have done that, follow these easy steps to clean your gun properly.
- Ensure the gun is empty by locking the action open
- Remove the magazine and close the action
- Disassemble your weapon into its main components
- Place all pieces into the cleaning basket (be sure to give some space and not stack the pieces on top of each other)
- Place the basket into the cleaning system and allow to soak for about two minutes
- After the gun has soaked in the solution for a few minutes to loosen up any built-up contaminants, you can activate the cleaning system
- You should allow the machine to remain on the cycle for about two minutes
- Once the items are cleaned, you can remove the basket and transfer the entire basket with components to the sink
- Thoroughly rinse all the components with water to ensure the cleaning solution is removed
- Once you have washed all the components and removed any residue from the cleaning solution, use compressed air on all components to remove excessive moisture from the parts
- Put the parts back into the basket and put the basket into the rust-proofing solution
- Transfer the entire assembly back into the ultrasonic cleaner and turn the machine back on for a two-minute cycle
- Once the cycle is over, remove the basket and allow it to drain
- Dry all components (you can use your compressed air for this as well)
- Before assembling the gun, lubricate the barrel (shown in video)
- You can then reassemble the handgun
That is all there is to it. The entire process should take you no longer than about 10-15 minutes. Time savings on one gun may not seem that much, but if you own a gun shop and offer a cleaning service, you can see how this can save you significant time. The same can be said for those who own multiple handguns and do not want to spend all night cleaning their guns after a range session.
